With the new Windows 8 based XPS Ultrabooks, there seems to be two ways to obtain installation media. You can either use the Dell backup app to create it or you can order it fron Dell. If you use the former and choose the "Drivers and Apps" option does that produce pretty much the same thing as would be ordered from Dell?
I ask, because I'd like to perform a reinstall just to avoid all the bloat and have access to as much of my drive as possible. I'd rather have just a clean WIndows 8 install and choose just the drivers I know I need.

Hi Glidos,
The backup media created via Dell Backup and Recovery Manager contains the OS image with drivers and application preinstalled in it and it takes the computer back to factory condition. It saves you from the hassle of installing OS via disc followed by drivers installation and basic software installation and is faster method of recovering the system from software related issues.
However, if you do not wish to keep the factory installed software's, a clean installation of OS via disc followed by installation of necessary drivers would be preferred option for you.

Hi Glidos,
When you choose the 'Apps and drivers', it only creates a copy of the applications and drivers & utilities that were pre-installed on the computer, not the operating system.
NOTE: Some of the Applications like MS-Office will not get backed up to due to licensing restrictions.
Whereas, if you choose 'Factory backup', it create a copy of the factory image which allows the you to restore the system to factory settings in case of an OS crash. The factory image would contain all the Applications and Drivers that was installed on the computer when it shipped out of the factory.
