D600, keyboard beeps and manufacturing mode
Hi
I just recommended this laptop to a friend and he bought it yesterday from someone on ebay, I have no clue as to what the history of this laptop is but it seems to be in perfect working order with the exception of two VERY annoying problems.
The first is that the BIOS keeps going into manufacturing mode after every time the laptop is shut down? I don't know what this does or how to disable it but every time it DOES go into manufacturing mode, it enables the keyboard beep whether its turned on in the bios or not.
The only way to then disable the keyboard beep is to go into the bios, enable it, restart, re-enter the bios and disable it again. And it seems the next time I shut down/hibernate the laptop, it goes into manufacturing mode again and the whole process starts over.
It's also got the latest A12 bios on it and that didn't seem to do anything at all for this problem.
I've tried pulling the CMOS battery and resetting the BIOS, which I thought had initially cured it but it now goes into manufacturing mode after every boot. I even checked the voltage on the CMOS battery with a multi meter and that's a respectable 8 volts or so, so no problems there.
I really feel bad that recommended this laptop to my friend now because he's always having bad luck with computers and this just adds to it.
