I didn't tried to update the BIOS, but from the description of the update it don't seems that it address this issue.

I Request you to update the BIOS as it controls the way all the hardware components function and check if it fixes. I would also recommend you to connect the laptop to an external monitor while the system is at sleep and wake the system. If it fickers even on the monitor, then the problem is with the video card or its drivers. If it doesn't then we might have to check the LCD screen. This is to check if it is an issue with the Video card or the LCD screen.

I have a desktop wallpaper with thin horizontal lines (kind of the same texture like the laptop brushed metal lid). On that the flicker is the most visible. It is also quite disturbing on a gray colored parts of the screen. Also, the flicker is more accentuated in the right lower part of the screen.

Gone for a while, now the problem came back after a restart. Around the web people say that this is a problem of the power manager. Namely that it tries to reduce the screen refresh rate to save battery.

Having the latest drivers, latest BIOS and the same old problem. Started thinking that it doesn't worth to pay extra for the nVidia video card ...

Problem is that when I first saw this problem, I've had a method for reproducing it all the time, but now it appears sporadically only so I don't even know how to test a solution.

I request you to go to the BIOS and disable the Ambient light sensor. While restarting the system keep tapping the "F2" key multiple times on the keyboard to get to the BIOS screen. Select light and uncheck "Ambient light sensor".

I don't understand why they've changed the screen and other hardware for you guys because it is clear (for me at least) that what we face is a software issue. Something goes wrong with the drivers.

I remember that it first happened after a driver update. Back then I have downgraded the driver back and the issue was gone until I re-updated the driver. I have updated the driver again because I've had crashes on resuming from sleep with the old video driver.
