Has anyone been successful trying more than 16GB yet?  If it was possible, I'd definitely buy the upgrade.

I haven't found any 16GB DDR3 DO-DIMM modules to try yet, BUT I did try some upgraded modules from Crucial with a higher PC rating and a lower CAS...

I put this in the machine:

Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB (2 x 8G) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) Laptop Memory Model BLS2K8G3N18AES4

There was some question as to whether they would work or not, and how the system would treat them.  Crucial guarantees this part to run in the E6540, but not that it will run any better than the PC3-12800 and CAS11 that the system is spec'd for....

Here are my results...  (excerpts from SiSoft Sandra System Report)

Note that while it isn't running at the full speed of the module's capability, it IS running faster than the memory spec cited on the E6540's documentation.  It is running at DDR3-1778 / PC3-14200 rather than DDR3-1600 / PC3-12800 and at CAS 10 rather than CAS 11.

I don't have my memory tests from the stock memory, but here are the results for this upgrade:

Help - I bought 2 x 8GB sticks of PNY memory, and didn't have any luck...it was PC3-12800, CL9...normal 1.5V...when I installed it and turned the computer back on, the HDD light was on continuous, WiFi light was on continuous, and the Batt was flashing.

I looked at a couple places online, and the sticks that I bought are listed as compatible...apparently not, though.  I took them back out, and put the original 4GB stick back in...tried several diff combinations along the way, to make sure it wasn't just a bad stick...no luck.  Does this have to be the low voltage version...1.35V?

Anyways, I ended up putting the PNY in my Lenovo...worked fine.  Ideas?  Thanks.

Most of the Haswell-based notebooks (of which this is one) require the lower voltage RAM -- so yes, 1.35V is very likely required and why the RAM didn't work.

I have a Dell Latitude E6540 and saw the post where you were attempting to upgrade to 32GB of RAM.  I would like to upgrade as well....and was hoping you could give me some feedback on your experience while doing this upgrade.  Was it successful and did it make a noticeable difference worth the added expense?  If so, would you please share with me the particulars on what RAM you purchased.
