LCD problem: won't turn off when closed
The LCD of my 600m does not shut off like it usually does when I 1)press the small button at the base of the screen, 2)close the lid (essentially the same thing). I just noticed this problem a couple days ago. A reboot did not help.
The only program I've recently installed is SpeedSwitch, but I don't think thats the problem because the problem still exists when I close SpeedSwitch.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Roland

- Actually I think I might have found the source of the problem. My father's computer (also a 600m) also started to experience this problem. I believe it may have been the Windows update we both recently installed (KB890175 and KB890830). These are a security update and "malicious software removal tool"; these don't really relate to the LCD so this is a shot in the dark... but who knows...
Any ideas? Close the top, then look at both Application and System errors. One of them should reveal the culprit.
OR
Right click on the desktop (anywhere) and select Properties. Select Screen Saver, then Power. Select the Advanced tab. What action do you want it to take when you close the lid of your portable computer?
- Hi,
I tried that but nothing related to hardware was logged.
Also, the power option you mentioned only contains "stand by", "hibernate", and "do nothing". All I want is for the LCD backlight to shut off when the lid is closed, as is the default, original response I am trying to restore ("do nothing"). "Stand by" will essentially turn of my computer/shut down my network connection, etc., and I definitely don't want to hibernate.

Anyway I took a look at the Event Viewer >System and >Application and I didn't find anything related to LCD/hardware problems.
