Hi My grandfather gave me a mouse..but if i install it does that mean i have to uninstall my touch pad?

I installed MS wireless usb mouse & keyboard. During the software load, it removed the touchpad software. Once the new software installed, I could still use the touchpad/keyboard or the new wireless mouse keyboard. I then reinstalled the touchpad software, so I could make any adjustments.
