Multi-Media Cables for Inspiron 600m -- NOT correct!
I ordered the Multi-Media cables for my Inspiron. They arrived with NO documentation or instructions. Three cables arrived:
1) One cable looks like an old Mouse or Keyboard connector (meaning not USB) and it has 5-prong plugs on *both* ends. It is labled "9N060". One end will clearly go into the plug on the back of the Inspiron between the USB ports and the telephone plug; it appears to be a "video output" plug.
2) Another cable plugs into the headphone plug and adapts this to two RCA plugs -- a red one and a white one -- typical for stereo sound output. It is labled "0P029".
3) A third cable is a typical three-headed video connector cable with three RCA plugs -- the type that connects your VCR to your TV. There are white, red, and yellows plugs and it is labled only "Audio L", "Audio R", and "Video".
There is ONE big problem. There is no way to connect the first cable (the video output cable) to the third cable!! The 5-prong plug will NOT connect to the yellow RCA plug -- it simply does not work. Therefore, there is NO WAY to get the Video Ouput from the laptop on to any TV screen.
Please let me know how I am supposed to use these cables. Thank you.

The TV 4 feet from me and my big TV upstairs does not support S-video. I have been given three-headed RCA plug cable. If I am supposed to use S-video -- and only S-video -- why in the world would they include the "yellow" head on the cord??? Seems rather ludicrous.mattcowger

Perhaps, but every TV I've used made in the last 5 years has Svideo. The original R2

That may be, but that does not help me use the cables, nor does it explain why Dell sold me a cable with a yellow RCA phono plug that DOES NOT DO ANYHING!
Can you tell me why I have a yellow plug that goes nowhere?
Besides, the most important aspect of this is that TV's in hotel rooms frequently do NOT have S-video inputs -- and that is one of the MAIN purposes of me having the cables. I want to be able to plug my laptop into TV's in hotels and watch DVD's or slide shows of our vacation or play something like Age of Mythology on a big screen. Given the cables that Dell sold me (especially the dead-ended yellow plug), I cannot do that! I have been sold a bag of hammers.
Thanks, I guess...

- You should have received the composite TV-out adapter. This has the SVIDEO on one end and the RCA (female) on the other. Check page 81 of your user manual. It's sounds like cable number 1 you mentioned is the wrong one. It should be as I just described. But you are saying that it is male SVIDEO on both ends right? Cable 2 is correct for the audio output and cable 3 would be used to go from cables 1 & 2 to your TV.

I understand what the yellow plug is for, but...
Where do I plug the yellow RCA phono plug into the back of my laptop?? I have an female S-video output plug and a male yellow RCA phono plug. How are you making these two connect?
Do you have a "composite video output" plug on your laptops? I don't. I am not trying to be difficult, I just what to be able to use my laptop in hotels and I don't see any obvious way...
Here is what it would look like -- IF I had a female yellow RCA phono plug on the back of my laptop:
http://www.tekguide.net/doyouknow/d2002,01,07.shtml
Notice the TV pictured there -- there is NO S-video input -- similar to what you would find at a hotel. So my laptop has no phono plug composite video output and my TV has no S-video input. Could someone tell me how to use these cables given that information?
Thanks.

YES, exactly. Thank you for understanding. The page 81 of my user manual is about "Network Problems", however, page 75 shows the exact cable that I need. I need the "S-video to composite video adaptor" or they call it the "composite TV-out adapter cable". That did not come in the box with the rest of my cables.
I have written an email to Dell about this (and another problem -- the package arrived without the spare battery I ordered although it is listed on the Packing slip), but they have not responded in two days! Their first email claims they will respond in 12 hours!
Will I ever get a response, or do I have to wait on hold for hours on the phone??
Thanks.

Thanks. Customer Care, but I really am working hard most of the day during "business hours" and I don't have 20 minutes to sit on hold. I hoped that the email route would be the way to go, but so far no response. At least this forum works well!It seems to me I simply was not given the fourth cord -- the S-video to composite video adapter cord. The Owner's Manual shows that they expect me to use that cord, but it was not included in the set of cords I received. It is likely in the same place as my missing spare battery!!Thanks for the help.
