I have a Dell Precision M4300 that docks into a Dell PD01x docking station.  This docking station has 2 display ports (VGA & DVI).  I have a lg Dell monitor plugged into the DVI port... and it works.  I have a small Dell monitor plugged into the VGA port... and it doesn't seem to work! 

When the lg monitor is plugged in and the sm monitor is not plugged in, the DEVICE MANAGER recognizes the lg monitor and shows the appropriate display driver installed.  BUT when the lg monitor is plugged in and the sm monitor is also plugged in, the DEVICE MANAGER displays video on the lg monitor, but shows the sm monitors display driver installed (and not the lg monitor display driver)!  So, in other words, I cannot get the small monitor to work... even though the system recognizes it when I plug it in. 

I've noticed that many users have posted that they have DUAL EXTERNAL DISPLAYS when the laptop is docked in its docking station.  How did you get both external monitors to work???
