Plugged in, Not charging

For the last few days my laptop battery has not been charging. The message says; Plugged in not charging. What does this mean?

I tried downloading the BIOs update however it was not successfully flashed as my battery is not over 12%. Infact, my battery has not exceeded 0% however is miraculously still running off of the AC input only.

HELP???

I have the same problem on two of my three Dell Laptops, though it is intermittent - the chargers seems to randomly change their mind from time to time and actually charge the laptops. We have developed the habit of only using them when they are plugged in!

If you Google "plugged in, not charging" you will thousands of posts on this subject. The bottom line is that if you are still in warranty, then replacement of battery, charger or motherboard is required.

If you are out of warranty then you either live with it like we do or else pay up for the repairs!

The defect appears to be a money-maker for Dell since about 2006, and people keep buying Dells so why should they fix it?

The things they will tell you to try might involve updating the BIOS, blowing into the charging port and into the charging plug(!) or other random things.

Basically Dell laptops are good unless you need to use them on battery power...

If any one knows a failsafe way around this issue (like removing the battery and charging it via a non-Dell charger somehow) - please post it!

I have similar problem but I know that my problem is due to the ac adapter pin being broker and hence it works with direct electricity but does not charge the battery. Yeah if we are able to charge the batter somewhere else it will be great

guys I have the same problem....I bought my 1530 last year May 2008....and after a year just when my warranty ended the battery stopped charging sometimes it is 0% and sometimes 75% plugged in but not charging. And then this week there is no sound coming!!! I bought my unit here in Saudi Arabia from a local store "JARIR BOOKSTORE". I don't know what to do with my laptop since I can't carry it around without bringing the power supply. I say this laptop suckz!!

I have Latitude D6320 still under warranty, I had some repairs done by dell engineers and soon after that I had this problem occurred, some times 49% some times 71% some times 54% plugged in but not charging.I have read and done every single post you can think of including Bios updates,,,no luck at all. I have sent an e mail to dell UK told them my problems and I wait and see tomorrow (monday) their answer and what will happen to sort this problem. I shall post update here. 17/08/2014
