Precision M6500 - Intel VT not recognised
Hi All,
I was running VMWare Workstaion 6.5.3 on my old Dell Latitude D630 (Windows 7 64bit) to create a 2008 R2 (64 bit) VM without issues.
Having now acquired a Precision M6500, I am unable to do this.
VMWare throws an error:
The host is VT-capable, but VT is not enabled.
This is usually due to a BIOS/firmware problem. Please:
(1) Verify the BIOS/firmware settings enable VT mode.
(2) Power-cycle the host, if the BIOS/firmware VT settings were changed at boot.
(3) Power-cycle the host, if you have not done so since installing VMware Workstation.
(4) Update host BIOS/firmware to the latest version.
You have configured this virtual machine to use a 64-bit guest operating system. However, this host is not capable of running 64-bit virtual machines or this virtual machine has 64-bit support disabled.

I have checked in the BIOS and VT, VT for IO and XD are all enabled, yet I cannot use 64 bit virtualization.
Has anyone seen this before or know of any issues regarding it?
Hi,
Basically after doing some reading (most specifically this article: http://reidablog.blogspot.com/2008/06/with-correct-bios-settings-enabled-on.html) it appears that having VT, VT for IO and Trusted Execution all enabled seems to make everything appear as though virtualization is disabled.
By disabling Trusted Execution and leaving VT and VT for IO enabled, the machine now accepts that VT is enabled. I am currently running Win7 Enterprise x64 host with 1x 2008 R2 server and 3x Win7 x64 guests and she is screaming along!
From what I have gathered, this is a bug, but who's responsibility it is, I don't know. The "Virtual PC Tips" PDF from Microsoft, it states that disabling TXT is required and "Microsoft is working with Intel to understand and resolve this issue" yet, even trying the VMWare hardware check ISO (which doesn't run Microsoft software) the error is still being reported so I can't see how the issue is Microsoft's alone.

Any news about this issue?
Can you maybe setup a new VM to install an x64 guest?
I plan to buy an m6500 as well and not being able to run x64 guests would be quite a show stopper.
