I have a Inspiron 600m. I have only two screen resolution options: either 1024 x 768 OR 800 x 600

 

I would like to know how I can set my screen resolution to something higher than 1024 x 768. My friend has the same identical laptop as me and he is able to set his screen resolution much higher (he has many higher resolution options, not just one).

 

I remember my labtop having higher resolution options before, just like my friend. However, after installing something, I lost the ability for higher resolution and was left with just the two resolution options I mentioned. Before I didn't need the higher resolution so I did not care; now it is necessary because of the work that I do.

 

I have updated the drivers and tried installing and re-installing them. This did not solve the problem; although, when I installed and re-installed the drivers, the higher resolution options appeared. However, once I selected the higher resolution and clicked OK, the resolution did not change and when I opened the Display Settings box again, the options went back to only the two resolution choices: 1024 x 768 OR 800 x 600
