Service tag not recognised
Hello all you happy people.....
You may guess that I've had a basin full of Dell tech support today.....like trying to get some.
Did you know that if you don't have a service tag you can't get anywhere within Dell Tech support? - it's a shame, because this is coming to you via my 18 month old Latitude D610....with a perfectly good Service Tag stamped on it's bum.
I've even verified that the number on the outside of the case is the same as the one that the hardware thinks it has......but still, the omnipotent Tech support system will not recognise my service tag number. So I don't exist.
well, it has only taken about 2 1/2 hours to get to this point, and as they say, the frustration outweighs the benefit......so this little baby is soon to be upgraded to shards of plastic & i'll go buy something which actually has a support process that works.....
Hey, Valium on the rocks, with a double JD chaser ok??
So, does anyone out there, know how to crack this enigma? How do you get Dell to give you the support that you are entitled to eh??
HELP!!!

Hi guys, Thanks for coming back.Well, to answer your questions;Yes, this laptop was purchased direct from Dell, in the U.K., using the small business option...for that is what I am (here's the joke, I'm an independant I.T. Consultant! :smileyvery-happy: ) ...ah hem.So yes, purchased through Dell in the U.K., and it was indeed the Dell UK website that I was checking on (good point about the U.S. website not knowing the EU Service tags - although that surely would cause problems for the international traveller with a knackered laptop? ).No, I have not got to the point of getting to talk/email or web chat with any Dell Tech support.......because my service tag is not recognised.......and the online chat is not available for this hardware.........so I cannot unlock the door to tech sppt!- although there is a Dell software tool which interrogates your pc online, and is able to correctly identify the embedded Service tag - and the associated Express service code.Interestingly, My account at Dell is now only showing the last desktop which I purchased some 6 weeks ago, not the Laptop.....I wonder if this has anything to do with an earlier desktop which was RTB for repairs in September, and subsequently was lost and replaced F.O.C. ??Looks like I'll have to wait til I get back to base & find the original documentation before being able to rattle cages further......Certainly not impressed so far - I've seen that others have had this problem, but Dell deals with it on a per platform basis, and the D610 is not so far one of those with this issue!Oh well, back to the JD & valium. (I know, shouldn't mix solids with liquids :smileysurprised: )murphy_le_chat

I have the same problem. Bought a Vostro 1310 laptop, and wanted to know what the Warranty / Return arrangements are.. in case anything goes wrong. But I can't get in to any of the support systems, as the Service Tag is not recognised. The same tag is on the laptop and its box. I've used a general Dell contact form today, I wonder what and when the response will be.hi some more happy people,I to have been trying to use my service tag&dell wihas not gotll not regconiose it,
