shut down problems

I'm sporting an Inspiron 5100... an Inspiron 5100 that likes to just shut its self off. It usually shuts off when its been on for a while, or if any task that may make it run "hot." When it shuts down its as if you pulled the plug on a tv... just goes off. Sometimes when turning it back on, it will shut right back down. I've tried running it on just power cord (with battery removed), trying on just battery right now to see if its power source issue. I've ran virus scans with norton and found nothing. Even scanned w/ ad-ware, and got nothing. Checked all my settings and everything is properly set (no... hibernate is not enabled.) Never had any problems before (no viruses or anything). if you have any thoughts on how to solve my problem i would greatly appreciate it. Thank you

Yep, another case of the well documented overheating problem on the i51XX models. The short answer is that the problem is caused by dust blocking the cooling vents and restricting the fan. The solution is that you need to clean this dust off with a can of compressed air. For more information please do a forum search, there are many topics on this.
