Svideo problem
I have an inspiron 8500. I used the dongle that came with my laptop to hook up to my TV. I use the S video cable for the picture and the headphone output for sound. Things were working fine and I could see the output of my media player on my TV and also hear the sound. I don't know why, but when I toggle the crt/lcd button, all of a sudden the output to my tv is gone. Since then, I have not been able to get my laptop to display anything on my tv. I've attached another device on the tv input to make sure that the problem is not on the tv side. The TV input is fine, thus the problem must be from my laptop. Any idea what I've changed to my svideo output when I toggle the crt/lcd button ? I have tried toggle the button again but no success. This crt/lcd button should only affect the monitor output which is separate from my tv converter. I am confused and hope someone can help me.
Thanks,
= Tom

Good News!! I was finally able to get my Inspirion 8500 to toggle between the laptop display and a TV using the S-Video out. It took a Dell warranty repair person replacing my nVidia GeForce4 4200 Go Video Card and the system motherboard. (I also had a parallel port issue) for it to happen. I also I had to revert to a older video driver for the nVidia video card from the Dell website. The older driver had the nView 'Twin View" panel and I was able to "clone" display to the TV. It now toggles between displays as expected. I recommend that if your machine is not able to toggle between the on-board monitor and an external monitor or TV, that you should first try downloading and installing older video drivers from the Dell website for your video card. If that doesn't work, contact Dell and if the laptop is still under warranty, asked them to replace the video card and maybe even the motherboard. Good Luck!!

the VGA output and the TV output are actually the same output (it considers the secondary monitor to be both of those ports)
hitting crt/lcd doesn't fix it?
What driver version are you running?
