Trackpad mode can't be turn off

Im in Singapore, right now using Dell E6430 for school purposes,

One thing that I can't stand is I can't turn off the trackpad mode. By the way, due to school, I had to downgrade from windows 8 to 7, and whenever I need to decrease brightness, i have to go into BIOS to do it, Does it apply for trackpad mode? and also, I am unable to link my computer to a projector. Please advise Also,  my laptop tends to go really really warm as compared to other Dells. E.g. inspiron

    Hi jorython,

For controlling the brightness and the touchpad issue you may follow the steps below to update the required software that control the functions :

    • Click on the link http://dell.to/QjjZDA -> Type the service tag of computer -> Select the correct Operating system version (32bit or 64bit) -> Expand Control Point and Input -> Download and install the latest version (Axx) of Control Point software and Dell Touchpad software.
    • You may Enable/Disable touchpad using the 'Fn'+'F5' or (F5 alone) button on keyboard and check if it helps.

For the heating issue, I would suggest you to clean the air vents of the computer. Below are the steps to clean the air vents:

    • Check the vents on the computer to see if they are covered with dust and not allowing heat and air to pass through
    • Turn off the System
    • Unplug the AC Adapter
    • Remove the Battery
    • Use Compressed Air to blow the dust out of the vents

Note: Please use compressed air can. When using compressed air can, use the can according to the directions on the side of the can as you can cause damage to the computer if used incorrectly.

Alternatively, run the diagnostics to check the hardware functionality of the computer.

    To run the ‘Dell Diagnostics’

    • Power off the computer
    • Restart the computer, press F12 on the Dell logo
    • Select ‘Diagnostics’ from the boot menu
    • Make a note of the error code (if any)

I would suggest you to update the BIOS of the computer. Click on the link http://dell.to/QjjZDA -> Type the service tag of computer -> Choose BIOS -> Download and install the latest version (Axx)

Note: Before updating BIOS please ensure that:
*Battery is more than 10% charged
    *Battery charger should be connected
*No external devices (flash drives, printers, external hard drives) should be connected.
*All other programs should be closed and documents saved

Please reply with the findings. Will take it further from there.

    Hi jorython,

Apologies for delayed response. Please share if you have ran diagnostics on system hardware and if there were any error messages during diagnostics.

The idle operating temperatures of Latitude E6430 should lie between 0° to 35° C (32° to 95° F)

Please share the idle temperatures of your system. You may use any third party temperature monitoring utility. One such example is HWMonitor Here.

You may also try monitoring the CPU usage as high CPU usage will result into higher temperatures. You may follow the steps below to identify the process/application consuming the CPU resources :

    • Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete on keyboard
    • Click on Task Manager
    • Click on Performance to check the CPU usage when system is idle
    • Click on Processes
    • Click on CPU to arrange the tab in ascending or descending order

If the the CPU usage is always high, please share the process consuming CPU resources so that we can isolate the application that is causing issues.

Do reply with the findings. I would be glad to help you.

    Hi,

on downloading the third party app, i found that my temperature lingers at 49C , which is outside the range.

My latitude originally came with windows 8, but now its running on windows 7 enterprise. does it affect?

basically the app with more cpu usage is chrome.
