Windows 2000 Inspiron 600m

Just received my 600m. I am a little disappointed with the build quality particularly the keyboard flex but I love the screen and the laptop runs super except for the minor problems noted below so I will ignore the crummy keyboard and keep her. Anyway, after a bit of a struggle I have Windows 2000 Pro running on it with no apparent (in the Device Manager) hardware problems. I used all the Dell Windows 2000 drivers I could and a third party driver for the ATI Radeon 9000 video, which benchmarks about 6800 on 3D Mark. I do not have the advanced ATI features so my first question is where to get a driver that will give me all the ATI fine adjustments. No big deal if I can't get them. Secondly, my battery life is not real good because I have no Speedstep or other advanced Power Management function working. In fact, when I went to install the Dell utilities files I get a message saying this program will not install on this system, despite the fact that the program says it will work on a 600m under Windows 2000! I tried running the install from the administrator account. I did get the separate Intel chipset drivers to install so the built in wireless is working great but I am not getting real good data transfer rates out of the hard drive so I wonder if I am still missing something. I would really like to run Windows 2000 on this machine but I would also like to have the good battery life I am supposed to get from a Centrino machine. Tests confirm the CPU is running full speed on battery and at all times. Does anybody have any ideas? Absent a favorable response I am going to likely put XP Home back on it with great reluctance.
