Jury still out.
I tried the 21" Gateway, but ended up returning it because of three annoyances I couldn't get over:
1) Annoying buzzing sound.
2) Left side of screen annoyingly brighter than right side.
3) Off-axis colour wash; colours look significantly different when viewed straight on than at an angle. On a monitor this size that presented as a circle of darkness in the middle of the monitor with brighter edges. Also there was some silvering of darker colours when viewed at an angle. This was the real killer for me.
I then bought the Apple 20" cinema display, which reportedly uses the same LCD panel as the Dell 2005FPW. The image quality is higher than any other monitor I've tried. Issues: It doesn't have a D-Sub input (won't work with my KVM switch) and after it is on for a while the buttons don't work any more. I can't even turn it off unless I turn my computer off and then back on again! It's going back.
In the meantime I've ordered the Dell. I get it soon. I have high hopes. The pixel pitch of the 21" monitor was much better (I like bigger pixels because it allows you to see more information on the screen more legibly). But if faced with a choice between big pixels and good image quality, good image quality wins hands down.
