autochangers and licenses

Quick question on autochangers and licenses...

We are moving from one autochanger to another, 128 slots to a 50 slot (larger capacity tape).
I am trying to keep both units on-line for a time while the old data expires. Can this be done with
both autochangers enabled (without buying an additional license)..
The only one that will be written too is the 50 slot but I would like the 128 to be available if people
need to recover. All tapes in the 128 will be marked ro..

I remember something about a max 8 day period that an autochanger will work without having
a specific license...

Autochangers are licensed per autochanger. So two libraries mean two licenses. In your case one for 1-64(50 slots) and another for 1-128(128 slot) autochanger.

If you have just upgraded the technology, you can use the same autochanger to recover from older tapes. Ex. If new autochanger is LTO-3, you can use LTO-2 OR LTO-1 tapes for recovery in the new library. You do not need both untill you have one DLT & one LTO technology.
