We also tried the same what you did.

But after breaking our head we gone ahead with the below backup strategy.

We have shown two LTO4 Drives to NAS Gateway.

We have configured the SHARE in the networker and through NDMP protocal we are backing up all the files.

You can also map it into a drive letter in a server and specify the UNC path in the saveset filed in the client properties, if does not work, try this:

By default the NetWorker Remote Exec service (nsrexecd) is configured to start as a service using the context account.  For CIFS backups on Windows, the context account may not have sufficient permissions to successfully backup CIFS shares. To avoid this issue:

1.   Create a Windows account on the NetWorker client machine with permissions to access the CIFS shares.

2.   In NetWorker Management console (NMC), connect to the NetWorker server with the client configured for CIFS backups.

3.   In Configuration, select clients.

4.   Right-click the client to back up the CIFS shares.

5.   Click the Apps & Modules tab.

6.   In the Remote user and password fields, type the username and password for the Windows account with permission to access the CIFS shares.

7.   In the Backup command field specify save –L.

8.   Click Ok.
