While I have managed a Legato server i have never done the install from scratch.
I have a new HP 1U server running Windows 2008_64 and HP Storage Works MSL2024 (24 Tape) Tape Library. That is the extent of the backup equipment.
When installing Legato 7.6 I'm a little confused whether I need to install Storage Node or will loading Legato Server, Legato Client (as I want to back up the server as well) and Legato License Manager be sufficient to control and manage the Tape Library and backups.
I will be backing up 5 servers and about 20 clients, while not a big enviroment they sure do create a lot of data
There's a step by step guide generated by the NetWorker Procedure Generator that will guide you through everything you need to do. If I were you, I'd be using that. You'll find it here:
On windows, installing Networker Server also installs Networker Client and Storage node. Install Server and Networker Management console.
Incase of Linux, you would need to install RPMs in this order: client, storage node, server.
For using tape library, you would need juke box license which will mention the number of slots that can be used. If you have more solts than mentioned in the license, create a partion using tape library console with limited number of slots as per the license you have.
Coming to clinets, Networker base license will include some client license also. Number of clients actually depends upon the edition of networker base license. Network edition comes with 10 clients, power edition with 12 clients if i am not wrong. You would need to add licenses for any additional clients. You can do so from NMC --> Configuration --> Registrations. You would be needing enablers and authcodes for registering/instaling a license.
Make sure tape libray and tape drives are visible in windows device manager before trying to configure with Networker.
