Physical or virtual NW server at DR site?
Hi all,
Is there any requirement where you would advise a physical Networker server over a virtual?
It is for implementing a DR site and having a standby NW server in place that will be powered up in DR scenario, for the necessary Bootstrap recovery
In this instance there will be a storage node with a DD4200 but no physical tape library etc.
The only real requirement is that at some point the server needs the possibility to be able to progress an 18TB Oracle DB recovery.
Any thoughts greatly accepted.

Your DR concept includes cluster or not? Anyway, as for physical vs virtual, I see no reason to go for physical in your case. I assume you can replicate all backups to remote DD, have bootstrap info ready in case of disaster, bring back online box on DR site, do nsrdr and carry on... (depending on OS you might need to sort some licensing at later stage, but with NW9 you should have enough time for that).

Provide good compute to your Virtual NetWorker Server which should withstand Oracle recovery of 18 TB, network connectivity at your DR will also decide how quick will this recovery happen. As you have already mentioned there is no library to be used with DR server....with this said....you can completely ignore Physical server.
Have you given a thought to DDBEA for Oracle which will save your time on resurrecting Backup server. DDBEA eliminates need of a Master server where it sends data directly to DD, you replicate the same date from DC-DD to DR-DD and tada.....you can recover it whenever you feel the need.
