Strange RPC Error when running backups with NMC and Networker User.
Hello!
Im trying a backup a Windows Server 2008 client from both NMC and Networker User localy on the client but i get errors about RPC and timeouts against our Networker server. In NMC the client just fails, no error or message is shown. In Networker User we get the following:
Our backupserver is running Windows Server 2012 R2 with Networker 8.1.1.3 and the client is running like i said 2008 with Networker 8.1.1.3.
We had this problem for a long time now and also have a open case against EMC about this but haven't manage to find a resolution yet. There is a firewall between the server and client but I have checked with the network technicians and there is no rules that blocks traffic between the server and client. I'm starting to believe that there is something wrong with VSS on the client but I don't really know how to fix it..
What we have tried together with EMC:
- Removed the client resources on the client and the server.
- Fully reinstalled EMC Networker on the client.
- Tried different Networker versions on the client.
- Changed the host file on both server and client.
- Rpcinfo between the servers is looking good.
- Nslookup between the servers is looking good.
- Tried different save operations and backup commands, for example "VSS:*=off"
Any tips and help is very appreciated!

I don't really understand what you mean? How I'm i supposed to create a file with the same name and location when a file with that name already exists?

Do you get quit signal always on the same file? I used to have and I could verify this with save from client where I would see where it breaks. In my case it was caused by AV (Symantec) and some obscure self-protection feature it used (didn't like save command so it would kill it).

Ok, we are using McAfee on our servers. I will try to disable it and run a backup again. I'll let you know if it solves the problem.

I tried to disable Mcafee but it didn't solve the problem. Please se the error down below:

What device is 172.20.4.1? is it a network device ?

172.20.4.1 is the ip adress of the backup server. I was running these commands directly on the client.

Does the nsrexecd crash on your client machine when this error occurs ?

May I suggest You try the NetWorker Health Check Tool (HTC) which is available from EMC support. The error messages are quite sophisticated.

As a work around, try creating a dummy file with the same name under drive path (file path show in error message) which you are trying to backup. Rerun the backup.
