Hello All, I am sure that some of you have heard this problem before. I am not too technically savy on the computer, but I know most things that I need to know. I cannot connect to the internet at all. I was on one night and nothing the next. I go into my control panel and network and under my LAN it says acquiring network address. I have Verizon DSL and I connect to the Ineternet through AOL. I have no IP address it is showing 0.0.0.... (all zeros). I have been through trouble shooting with aol, verizon and Dell. Both Dell and Verizon said that I may have a problem with my Network card, so we actually had a brand new one at work so I tried it at home and no luck. Is there anybody out there who may have the slightest Idea of what I can try? I have been without my internet for almost a month and it is driving me crazy. I could call Dell and actually go in further to technical support but I would have to pay because my warranty has expired and I really do not have the money for that. I would apppreciate any help. (my computer is a Dell Dimension E310)
This is a network setup or provider problem. You do not "connect to the Internet through aol." You connect through your dsl provider's modem. AOL might be your email provider or just a site on the Internet, but you no longer use dialup and don't have to have aol as your startup page. I suspect you have the wrong settings in Internet Options, Connections. Make sure "Never dial a connection" is selected and there are no telephone numbers or dialup connection in the list. Your dsl modem does not dial the telephone modem. Remove any connection setting you have on that page and do not connect using an AOL icon. You turn on your computer, start your browser and you are connected to the Internet.
You should be getting free help from Verizon. Contact them again or at least use their web site to get the setup instructions you need. Verizon should help you set up your dsl connection properly. The Verizon dsl modem should be connected to your computer's network card with ethernet cable. Check to make sure all the correct cables are seated securely and connected in the right order.
