Combining 2 WiFi NICs?

Hi. I was wondering, is it possible for me to install another USB adapter, and combine the USB adapter and miniPCI adapter, to provide 1. increased bandwith, 2. in case one connection drops, the other can take over and prevent a total disconnection? I'm using Windows XP Professional SP2.
 
Or is that not possible?

    Scenario 1 will not work. Scenario 2 (failover) will somewhat work. You will remain connected, but any open connection would break and have to be reestablished.

    given that you can bond dialup connections is there really no way to do the same with ethernet (or wireless as the case may be)?

    It is possible with ethernet, but you need specially designed switches at the other end, and its not possible with any WAP.

    You'd still need NIC teaming software on the laptop. You might be able to do it with Linux or BSD, but it would be tough :)

    so get the really nice switches and get some wireless to ethernet bridges? ;p
