Difference between 802.11b and 802.11g
I am looking at setting up a wireless network at my home that will be mainly used for accessing the internet and providing me the ability to print. After talking with a few people, I am now some what confused and I am hoping that someone will be able to help me out.
I was originally planning on purchasing a 802.11g router since it is the faster of the two options that I am considering (b and g). However, I was told that for what my needs are, that it really did not matter. 802.11g transfer rate is somewhere around 54 Mbps and that 802.11b has a transfer rate of 11 Mbps, but a cable modem only has a transfer rate of about 2 Mbps. Is this true? If so, that means regardless of the router's speed, it will always be limited by the cable modems slow tranfer rate.
I am missing something?
