DSL Modem Lights

I have a DSL connection but currently have no service. I cannot get a DSL light to come on my modem when I try to connect to the internet.
I've been on the phone with the local tech reps and still haven't been able to get any service yet.
I took my modem to my daughter's house and got a DSL light right away when I plugged it in there so I would say that the modem is good, correct?
I also plugged the modem into the test jack in the telephone box outside on the side of my house. I would think that I should have gottena DSL light then but I did not.
Does this make sense? I'm thinking that the service is disconnected somewhere outside of the house.

Any input or comments?
Thanks for everyone's time and help.

The connection to your house is not configured or turned on.  You will have three lights.  One for power, one for activity, and one for the connection.  Until that connection is solid, you have no service despite what  your ISP tells you.

You have done the smart thing by confirming the modem does work at another location.

There can be alternate wiring, if in fact the telco does have you set up for DSL.

There are two ways it can be set up.  (1) through your "normal" telephone connections and in that case you need special filters between your voice telephones and the telephone wall jacks.  In this method you connect the DSL modem, without a filter, directly to the telco wall jack.

    (2) the second method is for the telephone company to install the "filters" in a special telco interface unit outside the house (different telco demarc box) and in that case, the voice telephones do not use a filter, but the line for the DSL uses the 2nd pair in the telephone wiring and the telco wall jack for the DSL needs rewired.  In this method the voice telephones use the standard Red/Green wire pair in the telco wiring and the DSL uses the Black/Yellow wire pair.

you should ring the telco which your line rental is under not your isp and see if you still have dsl activated... unless your isp has access to the exchange in which case ring them

There is a filter that has to be installed inside your home, as well as work at the box outside.  The service tech that installed mine brought a laptop with him when I had an issue once and was able to troubleshoot right there.  Believe it or not, the connection problem I had at that time was caused by the modem being turned off ... the IP address did not reset and was "hung up."  I ran ipconfig /release, then ipconfig /renew and it ran like a champ!

As one poster said, there are the three lights and if that green connection light does not stay SOLID, you have an issue.  Again, you were right on trying the DSL modem at another location.  I have a box that they split the phone and the DSL and placed the wires within it to kind of safeguard them.  Unfortunately, the best bet is to probably have an internal phone rep come take a look at the internal hookup.  If you have line guard on your phones, it will not cost you anything extra.  :robotvery-happy:.

You only use filters on the inside if you are using the voice side in conjunction with the data side.  A filter on a DSL modem will cause it to quit working.  The filters are for the phones.
