I am having problem with Error 633 modem or other connection device already in use or is not configured properly.... Error result 67 com port conflict..., which I see many others have as well. I had this problem before right after I got my system wasn't even 1 month old. I had to restore system and all that and still didn't clear problem. They finally sent a new modem and worked fine for about 6 months maybe; it went out again on August 17, 2004, again had to go thru all the trouble shooting with tech support, reinstalled system, which again didn't clear problem, they determined was modem; sent modem; installed new modem worked fine BUT... it only lasted for 4-days same problem occurred again went thru same crude with support, they sent another modem on Tuesday August 24, 2004, got it 25th worked fine for 1 DAY had to call again this morning August 27, 2004, went thru all troubleshooting with no resolution; now they won't send a new modem since I've already been sent 2 in past week; now wants me to restore system again and are sending me restore CDs in mail to be received by wednesday of next week and I know darn well; it will NOT fix my problem.... Isn't there a permanent solution since this will be forth modem, which I know they are going to have to send after I go thru the darn aggravation of backing up my system again, restoring pc (AGAIN) from CDs and reinstalling all my software & data (AGAIN). Not to mention having to use alternative (laptop) to get online. I work at home and internet access is essentional. I have never been so aggravated with a pc system and tech support as I have with this Dell, which I thought was suppose to be TOP of the Line...
If you go to Google and do a search on "Error 633" you can find all sorts of articles. Try http://www.modemsite.com/56k/duns633.asp which explains that more than likely this isn't and never has been a hardware issue, the modem is fine. It's pointing to some sort of software conflict.
Who is your ISP and what software did they have you install?
Once again I would recommend that you go to Google and do a search on that error. There are a number of listings concerning that error including information from Microsoft themselves. I see that there was one instance of a motherboard being bad but I honestly do not think this is the case. Also, since we've replaced the modem several times and all have had the same issue, I would tend to think this is more of a software issue.
My isp is earthlink and I have installed NO software, I use a straight dialup connection. NO special software installed. And in searching your support forums quite a few others have experienced the same problem not only on deminsion either and problem was either modem and/or mother board one inparticular is located here...
