Help with Wireless
I can connect to the wireless network completely fine. it comes up with very good signal and everything. but when i open up firefox or Internet explorer it says The page cannot be displayed. i was just wondering whats wrong with the wireless. Thanks in advance.

oh sorry about that. well i have an inspiron 600m laptop. running windows XP, a dell 2350 broadband router. my isp is sympatico and sometimes i try and connect while im out or on a trip and the same thing happens. i hope thats enough information.- To help troubleshoot this problem, go to Start > Run and type cmd then click OK. In the command prompt window that opens, type ipconfig /all then hit the enter key. Write down the output from this command or select it and save it to a txt file, then copy this output into a reply to this message.Steve

Let's now see if there is a problem with your router or if there some software running in the background that is causing the problem with the internet connection. First, do you have any other computers that can connect to this router and the internet by wireless (if so, then it would eliminate the possiblity that the wireless side of your router is not making the internet connection). Although your garbled ipconfig output does not show it, I assume you have an ethernet adapter on this machine. If so, can you connect to the internet if you connect to the router by wired ethernet?To see if it is a software problem, try booting to Safe Mode with Network Support. If you do this, can you connect to the internet by wireless?Steve

well when i try and connect this computer to the router it dosnt work. it shows its connected but the same error comes up. when i open the internet its say the page cannot be displayed. so i think i might need a new router. do you have any suggestions that would work great in a multi level house ?- Before concluding that it is the router, try doing a complete reset of the network. Turn off the modem, router, and all computers. Wait 5 minutes, turn on the modem first and wait another few minutes, then turn on the router. Wait a few minutes more, then turn on the computer(s). Report back what you find.Steve
- I really need to know where we are at this point. Did the wireless connection work before your computer suddenly shut down and restarted? Try posting another ipconfig /all output so I can see where we are. Please try to include the carriage returns so the posted output is not so difficult to read.Steve
