IS THIS POSSIBLE

if so what would I need? first a little background. I'm moving out of my parents house to a piece of property across the street that my father bought and put a new manufatured home on. Everything is in his name(land, house ,utilities ect.) so heres my ? I had cable modem at my dads with 1 connection when I move he's getting a new desktop(4600) and I'll take my desktop(4500) across the street! Is it possible to share his cable internet connection since both houses are in his name? I know my connection would have to be wireless but how would I set that up and would it pick up from his modem to my house whic is probally 500 ft? I'm somewhat network savy but when it comes to this i'm confused about the hardware software ect. any help or links to diagrams would be great!

It IS possible, but its not going to be easy. The range of wireless isn't all that great, and you'd need external antennas, etc to get it over there.

The other way to do it, that would be faster and less pronse to weather would be to run fiber from their house to yours, and use a 100BaseT media coverter at both ends.

That is very pricy!  I would look for one of the more powerful wireless solutions.  Put the router in the front window and you'd need to be by a window also.  There is always repeaters and external antennas.  Or since you're getting your housing for free you could get your own cable - you need television anyway.

Perhaps, but its the 'right' way to do a long haul like this. I've had bad luck with long distance wireless links, but I guess you could pull it off with a 500mW amp and a nice Yagi directional antenna.

Using repeaters (or routers capable if repeating) and building two of these (also here) would do it also.
