I have recently discovered that my NIC won't work at my workplace. I have a Broadcom570x Gigabit controller. I've tried downloading drivers to no avail. I've seen online that people have been having problems with this NIC. Are there any other solutions than updating drivers?
Thanks!

A NIC almost neve, ever goes bad. I have not seen 1 NIC yet that has failed. Something else is going on. Try a different port, try using a static IP address. If you have a link light, and the driver is enabled, and windows show it as enabled, then something else is wrong. That's why you can't browse. You said it won't work at your workplace. That implies it works at home, so therefore its not the NIC. Maybe its not autonegotiating in that port at work (auto speed sense) and/or duplex. There are 6 possible combinations of getting this to work. 1000 Mbs, 100 Mbs, 10 Mbs each at Full or Half Duplex. The switch or hub, whatever the case may be, where you plug this in at work, is not negotiating the proper settings for this card. We have 500 machines where I work, D600 laptops in our company. ALL utilizing the same NIC. We have had ZERO problems with connection. You can try a different PCM/CIA NIC or Cardbus to see if that works in the same port. I will bet a dollar to a donut, its NOT the NIC, just from what you described. Set it to a static IP address. Its either not getting a DHCP address, or routing to the Wins server isn't working.. or any of anumber of issues, which probably has to do with the switch, but I doubt its the NIC itself.
Thanks for your advice...unfortunately it's not that easy. My connection doesn't work at home either. (I have wireless at home, so that's what I usually use.) I've tried reinstalling drivers, using the driver repair cd, everything...I tried your suggestions, but nothing worked. There is one difference in my problem at home and at work...At home, my computer won't even recognize a connection and says 'cable unplugged,' while at work, it recognizes the connection and will even ping itself (using a static ip address) but won't do anything else. Any other ideas, BESIDES reformatting?
Thanks!
