Alright.  Now I know i should be able to do this, but i'm having problems...so can someone help me out as to how to connect my laptop (Inspiron 5100 with wireless card) to my desktop (dimensions 8100 with pci network card). 

Here's how i'm linked right now.

Dimensions 8100 --->truemobile 2300 wireless router-->cable modem

Inspiron 5100--->truemobile 2300 wireless router

 

Now i'm having issues creating a home network and seeing the files on each system.  Please help me out as to how to create that home network.
