Networking problems with Vista 64

I have a Precision M6300 laptop running Windows Vista Business 64. It is having really strange problems on our network. Basically, when going to websites (especially sites on our intranet) in Firefox and IE you can type in the web address and nothing will happen. The page will time out. Refreshing the page brings it up successfully. It happens everywhere in the office, using both wireless and the wired connection. No other systems are having any problems.

I've updated drivers (chipset, Broadcom LAN, Intel 4965 wifi, and BIOS), toned down Vista's networking "features," uninstalled and reinstalled the network protocols and drivers. Nothing works.

This does't seem to be a hardware issue to me since the same thing happens on the wired and wireless connections. The only thing I can think of to do next is to format the hard drive and reinstall Windows. Does anyone have any ideas?

Is your system current on all Microsoft updates?

I assume transferring files from this system through your network...no issues?  Did you do a speed test on your internet connection?(http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/).  What Firewall or Security Suite are you running?

There are no issues transferring files. I just ran a speed test and the results were normal. Although the same problems occurred trying to run the test. After typing in www.speedtest.net I had to hit enter again before the page would actually display. Then, I had to click on the server location twice before the test would start.

AVG 8 was installed but it has been removed in the troubleshooting process. The problem occurs when the Windows Firewall is on and off. Most of the other Vista security features are disabled for the time being.

AVG 8 is horrible.  Part of that suite scrubs every packet sent...slowed my last Vista system down to a crawl.  Try this:

Click Start, then All Programs, Accessories, right-click on Command Prompt. Select Run as Administrator. Next, type the following command at the command prompt:

netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled

    Finally, Reboot your computer

Do you encounter the same problem outside the office? Have you spoken with your office Network Administrator about this? It may be a compatibility issue with Vista 64 and the office network configurations.

You don't state in your OP whether your system is current on all Microsoft updates? Yes?

I do not encounter the same problem outside the office. However, we have 4 identical systems in the office (Precision M6300 with Vista 64) and this is the only one having this problem.

I don't think the entire AVG suite was installed, just the free version. It's not installed anymore. Maybe something is left over?

The autotuning is already disabled. No dice there.

Even though a program is removed, files can remain behind. (footprint) Check your Windows File Directory under the Program Files folder, do you still have an AVG or Grisoft folder?
