That's weird ... it should have worked. These are Conroe chips.

I've swapped an E6600 for a Q6600 (slightly slower Q6700) before on a couple of Dell XPS-410 and once on a ASRock ... worked fine.

Sounds like maybe OPTIPLEX 755 is missing BIOS microcode for Q6700.

Ok thank you. Do you know where I can download that part of bios? I just flashed my bios with a download I got from here right b4 I attempted CPU upgrade. Also … Could it be that the CPU says "CORE 2 EXTREME" on it instead of CORE 2 QUAD?

USFF does not support Quads. Basic Reason 150W power supply is not enough power.  Core 2 Extreme QX 6700 uses too much power (130W) and is not supported in ANY 755.

There is no conversion sticker this is not a XEON based board.

Quoting speedstep:  "Core 2 Extreme QX 6700 uses too much power (130W) and is not supported in ANY 755."  In the post above yours, though it wasn't renamed, the last link (before the auto signature) is for the tech guide for your pc.
