No way. This is an ancient 2009 XP computer. It is not worth spending any money on. Not even worth the cost of windows 7. That is the highest version it can run.

While I realize this is a older topic, I do hope some will find it worthy because many OPTIPLEX 760 are still available on eBay.

eRRRR Ahaaa...  Mary,  I am replying using a OPTIPLEX 760 with Win 10 Pro, 64 Bit OS now!  I've had  my 760 online for about 4 days now.  Still using the 8GB of memory it was supplied with...

While the 'Device Drivers' did show two annoying errors ~ my "OPTIPLEX 760" with a 250-GB  Solid State starts from a cold start to "Desktop" in about 25 seconds and has never crashed ~ even once.

ONE of the annoying errors (only seen if one looks for it in "Device Drivers"') was a 'PCI-serial-port' error message.  The PCI still worked with a HDMI Card ~ even though the reported 'errors' were still posted in Device Drivers.

I finally FOUND a fix for it on a old HP site!  That error is 100% gone!

While one may think this second error is a "show stopper", my 760 remains as peppy as can be... That second error is: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 @ 3.00GHz  "A driver (service) for this device has been disabled. An alternate driver may be providing this functionality. (Code 32)".

I'm still working on this one...

Great timing on your post, as on 5/29 I was looking at my long-neglected Opti 760 and thinking: "I should use it for something".  Then I checked the build date on the machine, and it was 5/29/09!  So there's clearly some cosmic alignments that's demanding I get it running again.

I'd like to go to Win 10, so if you get a chance to update your post with whatever improvements you've made to your driver situation, I'll follow it with interest.

My Win 10 Pro (64) installed with just TWO errors... everything appeared to still operate (errors or not) and all Microsoft Updates installed problem-free too.

My bugger error was fixed with a older HP Driver from their Site... that HP fix installed quickly and that error was gone!

My second error bothered me most ~ (two) CPU Errors... But it appears that DEVICE MANAGER detected the problem(s) and installed substitute Drivers that work great!  "Mary" recommended that I just ignore the 'errors' and so I am.

WOW did that 250-GB SSD upgrade make a HUGE difference!  I can't rave about it enough...

A link to your post that you're referring to would definitley help and can still be edited in your post.

I'm sure experiences may vary.  It's not stated what size 760 SOGLAD5 has.  Knowing the size speeds troubleshooting as components may vary depending on the size.  Somebody with a different sized 760 may not have the same experiences.

Only 1 model away, Win10 Pro installed on an SSD in my 755 MT with no problems.  Speed is great.  Exception being do Win10 updates ever download slow.

I have a new 'hobby' bringing a number of OPTIPLEX back into service and my detailed notes for that fix site and that Systems Specs are on another Dell SSD/System!  So is that new Driver.  Just did a through search of this system and it's not on here...

Which System has the info is the mystery for now... To be clear, the Driver WAS from a H.P. support site.  Gee I though my original post had the site included BUT since then some other op here "recommended" that Drivers should NOT be used from other sites ~ only from DELL... and sorry, I forget his exact words?...

Perhaps he was a "administrator" and perhaps that is why or how that link may have been deleted from my message?  IF I included the link because I sure intended to!

I copied the exact fault codes and words from the failed original driver from "Device Manager".  Using those long numbers I did a Google search and FOUND that newer H.P. Driver that resolved my problem.

Wish I could be more specific for you, but I will try to locate that info for you and reply again.

Thanks for the extra information!  I plan on getting a better graphics card into my machine (760 MT), then when I do an upgrade (either to 7, which should be simple, or to 10), I'll report back on how it went.
