I have two Optiplex 3020 desktop computers with A2 BIOS one runs Windows 10 x64 and the other Windows 7 Pro x64. They work perfectly except for one problem. They both can't do a soft reboot. no matter what I boot from. I can boot from a DOS diskette then press Ctl Alt Delete it will restart and won't post until I shut power down and push the power button again. I tried to to update the BIOS from Windows, The start up menu (BIOS), and from a DOS boot. It will process the update then soft reboot then its in Lala Land until I shut down and restart from the switch. Then it will boot without processing the BIOS upgrade. Please help me. Is there a jumper that needs to be changed or missing? Why both PCs are doing this with different RAM, CPUs, PS?
The 3020 is a UEFI based system. MSDOS is not a booting option. Bios updates must be run as administrator and the Management Engine Drivers must be installed.
Antivirus software can also prevent updates from working.
Bios updates must be done in order. You cannot jump from A02 to A14 in one step.
You can simply flash the latest version of BIOS. The firmware is always provided as a full image that overwrites the old one, not as a patch, so the latest version will contain all the fixes and features that were added in the previous versions. There is no need for incremental updates.
This problem is happening to me. Anyone fix it yet?
How come you didn't post your solutions in your replies here? That would've been more helpful than your "I fixed it" reply. Please respond and post your solutions HERE IN THIS THREAD. @tifoketal@Dellacruse
@speedstepIt doesn't matter what BIOS you attempt to upgrade to, the computer will not reboot after running the EXE for whatever version of BIOS. So no flashing occurs whatsoever. I have tried flashing several versions already from the EXE in Windows: A03, A07, A10, A20. No dice. This thing will not POST after a RESTART/REBOOT command from Windows.
