Replace dead drive on PE24000

A drive on my boot virtual disk (Raid 1) failed. After shutting down and restarting, a fallback disk moved into place just as it was supposed to and everything is running fine. Is it safe to just shut down again and replace the failed drive (same size etc type etc),? I assume that it will appear as unallocated space or something and a will be able to configure it as a new fallback disk?

This may seem like a stupid question, but does the physical order of the drive in the cage really mean anything? Because this failed disk was the first (on the right) Drive 0?.
So for example, if I were to move the disk that was previously the fallback - now part of the mirror- to the first slot, would the controller know that it was still part of the Mirror (virtual disk)?
