Joining win2003 krb5/libgc problems

Hi everybody,

as I see no other possibility to get some support from redhat I try the Dell-Forum. If anybody of you knows how to get technical help for EnterpriseLinux please tell me. Thanks a lot.

I have a 14days old PE1800 System with RedhatES3 installed - everything should be up to date (Kernel 2.4.21-27.0.1.ELsmp)

My main problem is that I want to join a Win2003 domain with Samba3.0.9-1.3E.1 - this fails because of a "unexpected reply" from the server. This is afaik due to some new encryption methods. So I tried to install the krb5-libs-1.3.4 rpm's from fedora because my redhat-es still has 1.2.7. This fails because I need a newer version of the glibc - which is, in my opinion, definetely not the thing to replace by fedora packages. Does anybody of you know a solution for this problem?
Any help would be highly appreciated,

jan

If you have RHN access, you will be able to download the ISO for RHEL 4 when it becomes available. I have personally tested RHEL 4 betas, and so far I am quite impressed with it.
Dell however won't support RHEL 4 until it has completed its validation testing.
I have setup an NFS server on Windows 2003 and used it for home shares. Using SFU 3.5 you can configure a NIS master and publish an autofs mapping to your clients. You can then configure your clients to authenticate using ADS and Winbind or NIS on the Windows host.

Thank you very much for your answer - as we need homes-share acces and single-logon as well we can not simply use ldap as a backend. We need a fully integrated Linux Server. By compiling the new kerberos libraries by mysel from FedoraSRPMS and all the depending stuff(about 10 other packages) on the box I achived this. Unfortunately by doing this I lost my support, I guess. Do you know if every customer of RedhatEL-ES3 will automatically updated to ES4 in february?

You're right - this would be a solution. Anyway, even if SFU is a strong implemenation of unix protocols (the reason: Businesses are looking for ways to use their investments in UNIX applications, resources, and expertise while minimizing the total cost of ownership (TCO) as they move forward. (on Windows)) I just don't like the idea of having Windows managing unix clients. I accept that I may be old-fashioned and this is my only my problem - so let's wait for RH4.
