Windows Server 2022 installation does not find any hard drive
Hi everyone,
I want to install Windows Server 2022 Essentials on PowerEdge R640.
But the installation program of Windows Server can not see the SAMSUNG mz-7l39600 PM893 SSD neither it is detected in IDRAC.
I want to ask if you can help me to find the drivers. I might need to load the drivers for the SSD in the installation manually. I did find <ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell>
But when I am unpacking the exe-file with 7zip and mounting them as a virtual iso-file, then the installation program for Windows can not find there driver any files inside. Samsung even does not have any drivers for this SSD.
Do you think it is about loading the drivers manually or might there by another problem or solution possible?

Now it works. I needed to initialize the SSD on my notebook for somehow and then I have put it back into the server and the installation is working.

Hi,
I don' think PM893 is compatible with R640. The drive looks only compatible with 13G server, R630.
I found PM863 is compatible with R640, this might be the reason that iDRAC is not able to detect the SSD. If the drive is not appearing iDRAC, you will not be able to install OS.
Below are the 2 SSD drive, 960GB SAMSUNG drives:
3RDJV Samsung SSD, SM863, 2.5, SATA6, MU, 960GB
3D6WK Samsung SSD, PM863, 2.5, SATA, RI, 960GB
As for the OS driver installation, you will need to install the PERC controller driver instead of the drive driver. Here an article on how to install OS for PowerEdge: http://del.ly/612170BTKz

Hi,
I forgot to mention that PowerEdge R640 is not compatible with Windows Server 2022 Essentials, you will need Standard Edition. Please refer to the Windows compatibility matrix.
