PowerVault 110T eject problem

I have been running BackupExec 8.6 on a PowerEdge 2500 with a PowerVault 110T for almost 2 years. The backup jobs have been set to eject the tape after the backup/verify. This week BE started giving the message "Please remove the media from the drive." and waited for an OK. The tape cartridge was ejected as expected before the message was OKed. The only thing new is the message. This hangs the backup/verify job until someone clears the alert message. An eject job also shows the message where it did not before.

The last normal behavior was Saturday May 1 at 8AM. The first strange behavior was Tuesday May 4 at 8AM (the next time a BackupExec job neared completion). I know of no hardware/software/configuration changes or unusual occurrences in this time frame.

Could the tape drive be failing to signal that the eject worked? Any idea what is causing this?

How to configure VERITAS Backup Exec (tm) to automatically respond to media alerts, including when a backup hangs at 99%, until the user responds to a tape eject prompt

Thanks Per, but I was already aware of that option. In this situation, the article's suggested approach would only obscure the symptoms and not address the underlying problem. That article does not address why these messages would suddenly start appearing.

Do you have any idea why they started?

No, unfortunately I've no idea. Somehow your configuration has changed. I can't imagine this is caused by hardware.

Check your event logs and the setupapi.log if there are any entries at the same time this alert appeared first. Also run a virus scan and check your filesystem with "chkdsk /f".

If the error persists and no other forum member can help you, you should use the "begather" and "sgmon" tool and contact Veritas support.
