I bought my son a T5810 with a 685W PSU (which is at his mother's house) and I've just given him my GTX 1660 Super. Which I took out of my HP Z240.
As I can't look at his computer right now and he's due to go back to his mother's end of the school week (and excited to try out his new card)... Let's say that hypothetically he has the power extender board with the 8 pin to dual 6 pin cable for the GPU...
Am I right in thinking that it will be fine to use only one of the two PSU 6 pins, with a 6 pin to 8 pin adaptor cable to the GPU. Or do both of the 6 pins need to be connected for the power to feed through?
I have preemptively ordered a dual 6pin to 8pin cable but am hoping there's a more immediate possibility. As that cable won't arrive till next week and I already have a 6pin to 8pin from the Z240.
I think it should be okay to use 6 to 8 pins cable because the card only requires about 125w and the PCIe slot and the PEG cable combined power already exceed that requirement.
Thanks for the reply Chino. That is what I am thinking and hoping also as the Z240 gave it 150W and no problem there.
My only concern is that both 6 pins need to be connected to the GPU (regardless of it's power needs), due to some quirky, Dell proprietary requirement!
Anywho. We'll give it a shot and post the result later in the week.
