Precision 7560 not Recognizing SATA M.2 (Intel 545s)

Brand new 7560. Migrating from 7520, which had the Intel 545s 128GB SATA M.2 SSD installed as data drive (non boot) and working fine. Moved it over to my 7560 (tried both slot 3 and 5, which should support SATA) and it isn't recognized in BIOS - under storage, it only lists M.2 SSD 0 which is the boot drive the 7560 came with. BIOS and everything else is up to date in Dell Command | Update.

Intel SSD product code: SSDSCKKW128G8X1

What am I missing?

Most newer systems support M.2 only in NVMe format -- SATA has disappeared.  Since the manual for this system mentions only NVMe support, it is highly likely the 7560 has no SATA M.2 support.

Dell has been shipping 7560s and 7760s in Raid mode regardless of whether the customer orders a Raid setup. I believe you need AHCI ((bios setting) for SATA drives (so that windows recognizes the SATA drive and loads the right SATA drivers), so switching to AHCI should provide a solution for you. You can find tutorials on various websites on how to switch to AHCI. This has at least worked on some Windows 10 7560s and 7760s I believe.

Unfortunately, that is not it. ACHI was pre-selected.

Multiple sources suggest slot 3 and 5 are SATA capable. Slot 1 has explicit label that says no SATA here, 3 and 5 don't. BIOS has something mentioned about SATA, although it isn't specifically at the slots sub menu.

The information is correct that it will support SATA configuration and can have one of the configurations that you mention. However, our scope of support is limited to the storage configuration shipped with the system.

I hope this answers your question.

Dell support confirmed M.2 slots 3 and 5 are SATA compatible but will not provide further assistance "because the 545s was not purchased thru them". Booo. I will be grabbing another SATA m.2 just to check on these guys. Can't trust anybody these days.

@DELL-CaresWell it wasn't my question, and it is not what Dell states in the manual... so, if what you say is correct, then what does that say about Dell manuals? LOL!

As seen on page 18 of the manual found here…
    https://dl.dell.com/topicspdf/precision-15-7560-laptop_owners-manual_en-us.pdf

    muto_0-1647448796777.png

And as seen on Dell website here
    https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/en-us/precision-15-7560-laptop/precision_7560_specs/storage?guid=guid-12cf2b7a-17bd-4537-b0aa-c1f3aee7967a&lang=en-us

No mention of SATA, only NVME!
