I have an 1815dn laser that works great with my XP machines, but it constantly goes offline when I print from my one Dell XPS M1330 Vista laptop. I talked to Dell support and thought the problem was solved with a new driver, but no joy. Anyone know how to reset it once it goes offline -- and I don't mean just going to the dropdown mean and clicking Use Online. That's already set correctly -- but the printer is still offline. I should note that it still works perfectly from the XP systems when the Vista machine can't access it. Thanks.
I was having a similar issue, but with all PCs unable to print. Just kept showing offline. I ran into an article that solved my problem, maybe it will for you too!
On the Ports tab of the printer Properties, click Configure Port. UNcheck the SNMP Status Enabled box and click OK. Evidently there was a change to how SNMP works with SP2.
I hope the reply from "cqbush" works for you...... but I have some clarifying questions:
1. Is your printer connected via USB or Network? 2. When you say "offline", I assume you're referring to the printer status in the "Printers & Faxes" window?

THANK YOU cqbush!
We've been dealing with this issue in our office for a long time. And this simple solution cured all my headache in one shot.
Unfortunately this SNMP fix doesn't prevent both my Dell 5100cn and Brother MFC-7840 from regularly going offline and requiring a reinstall. Whatever is causing it should be addressed by both the printer manufacturers and Microsoft. I'm not able to buy 2-3k worth of new printers every couple of years because they can't get their act together, or possibly even are deliberately causing the problem to force people to upgrade hardware when there are os updates. This looks like a really great opportunity for a third party to make some money creating new drivers that work.
