having issues with V313, started out with would not print color, there was no error message. went to support and downloaded updated drivers and firmware, then got a message "there is a problem with the printhead, please consult user's guide". but it appeared only once. back to support, cleaned print head. noticed when printing test page (which would only print black) that printhead days since install was 674 , black ink days since install was 23 BUT color ink days since install is 720 (?) i changed the color the same time as the black ink and have changed color several times since day one. one other suggestion was whether or not the firewall was allowing dleacoms.exe and dleawbgw.exe . since i had recently downloaded avast i uninstalled avast and uninstalled theprinter as well. i reinstalled the printer with the latest driver and firmware and now when i try to print a test page it says "communication not available, the printer cannot communicate with the computer" i unplugged power cords USB cables and even changed USB port, nothing ! also the progam bar at the top of the desktop screen disappeared !!!! UGH. any ideas would be appreciated. thanks
thanks for the respomse, it will only copy in black/white. didn't think to try that. printer is wired. was using McAfee protection which came with the computer, but that expired so that is why i used the Avast, which i have since uninstalled.
i did not remove McAfee. i have uninstalled Avast. i had already tried a new ink cartridge, shook the cartridges, cleaned the printhead. i am beginning to lean more and more toward the printhead failing. why would that now affect communication between the printer and the computer ?
This can copy without being connected to the computer, correct? If yes, if it's copying only black and white and no color, I suspect the color cartridge may have failed. The printer should be able to work as a copying machine without a computer turned on.
When installing the printer, you need to have a working printer.
You can also try these tweaks...
Start, control panel, device manager.
Go to the USB Controller section and click the + sign.
Go to each USB Root Hub and right click on it, left click properties, left click power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.

needdirection,
Can you copy a document under the glass? Black and white and color?
What virus program and firewall are you using?
Printer wired or wireless?
