Difference between H700 Integrated and H700 Adapter

Hello,

I had purchased what I thought were two identical H700 RAID controllers for two separate R410 servers.

One of them claims it is an 'H700 Integrated' and the other once claims it is a 'H700 Adapter'. As far as I am aware, they both look identical.

Could I have installed them incorrectly? I didn't enter any drivers, they were just 'recognized' when I installed Windows Server 2016.

I'm not that bothered what they are labelled, except that I am unable to update the drivers for the one that claims to be the 'Integrated' because when I try and install, it gives me an error claiming that it cannot install in this system configuration.

Any help/feedback would be appreciated.

Thank you.

    Gavin2812,

The differences are small, but they are that the Integrated version is intended on being installed in the Integrated storage controller slot (on riser), and the Adapter version doesn't. You can't use the Integrated on anything but the storage slot. You can find out more on page 99 in the Hardware manual found here.

    Hope this helps.

Sorry if this turns in to a double post.  I am working with a legacy T410 and a "dead" VRTx which happened to have 24TB (raw) of 3.5" enterprise disks that fit in the T410.  But the T410 had a PERC 6i in it, so I had to upgrade it to a PERC H700 which supports those disks.

After swapping out the PERC cards, everything is great EXCEPT that I get a "SAS B Cable Failure" and slots 4 & 5 are not usable.  I've tried two different H700 cards, replaced the SAS cables, replaced the backplane, and swapped the P3 and P4 power cables attached to the backplane.

If I intentionally connect SAS A on the controller to the SAS B connector on the backplane, and vice versa, the problem moves over to "SAS A Cable Failure" and all 4 slots (which now appear as 4,5,6 and 7) work - meaning the cable and the SAS B port on the controller work if connected to SAS A on the backplane.

Is it possible that I've purchased two "H700 Internal INTEGRATED" controllers rather than just "H700 Internal"?  These have DP/N 0CNXVV and when I tried to update firmware on one from the T410 support page, it was the wrong firmware - I had to find another download.  Also, the first one I bought didn't have a PCI slot bracket attached.

Update:  The second H700 I tried using is DP/N 0HCR2Y.  I found other posts which indicate these P/N's but doesn't list 0HCR2Y.  Is 0HCR2Y an "Internal" (adapter) or an "Integrated" (for the riser)?

    H700a 1GB - part # G5V20

    H700i 512M - part # CNXVV

    H700i 1GB - part # 39H7H

    Thanks!

    Hello,

We encourage our users to post new threads for issue engagement, unless you were wanting engagement from the original poster who created this thread, but that was in 2019.

As for the T410 and PERCs, you should be able to install them in either PCI slot 4 or 5, per the slot priority matrix. As for the error you were seeing, I'd normally be inclined to think that two controllers having the same issue were unlikely, but you would have isolated the controller when you tested an alternate backplane and cabling.

Regarding your concern about internal vs integrated, the PERC6i and the PERCH700 family are all internal controllers (whereas the PERC H800s and PERC 6e are external). We do have the H700A, which would have a metal backplate like what you would see for a PCI slot.

Finally, HCR2Y is an integrated internal card.

I believe I touched on all your questions. Let me know if I missed anything.

I just wanted to follow up and thank you for the information you provided.

In this case, I was able to get that PERC issue fixed.  It turned out to actually just be a simple cabling problem, once I got the correct version of the PERC H700.

The server is up and running with a nice 14TB RAID6 array using salvaged drives from another Dell server (VRTX chassis that had died but is now in process of being revived).

    Thanks again.
