As per system specifications, you can add upto two internally accessible and 3 externally accessible hard drives on your Dimension 4600.

Drives:

Externally accessible:  two 5.25-inch bays
                                         one 3.5-inch bay
Internally accessible:  Two bays for 1-inch–high IDE hard drives

It's handy to include the version of windows that installed.

Two, there are two internal 3.5" bays for hard drives available inside the case.

Assuming that you are installing IDE HD's.

How to install a second IDE hard drive:

Set the hard drives jumpers to "Cable Select".  After the physical installation of the hard drive, check in the setup, that the hard drive is set to auto [on] and in order for windows to recognize the second hard drive, it must be partitioned and formatted, using Windows Disk Management.  

Note: You may need to buy an 18" IDE, 80 wire, three 40-pin connector data cable, similar to this:

There should be a spare 4-pin Molex power connector available inside the case.

Hi Dell-Babita S,

              Thanks for the reply at the moment the Dell has two drives one of 80gb and one of 60gb.I am running Windows XP and what I would like to do is add a 500gb Hard Drive as well as keeping the two Hard Drives all-ready in the Dell,so effectively I would be running three drives in total is this possible .The drives are all of the IDE type.Regards.John.
