I've done some searches but nothing came up that matches what I'm looking to do.

 

I have Dimension 8400. I have already a WD 250JD hard drive, I bought another 250GB WD SATA drive.

 

On the original drive my WinXP MCE is already running. I've been getting a SMART Event (possible HDD failure, it still boots, but I rather keep the system off until I have a mirror onto a new drive).

 

My question is: I'd like to convert it to RAID-1 (mirror) using the Intel Application Accelerator RAID Option, hardware based through the BIOS (Ctrl+I) rather than through software-based by the Intel App Accelerator after WinXP launches and running the migration through there.

 

Will running the RAID-1 migration from the BIOS (Ctrl+I), completely trash my OS when I create the RAID-1, or will it work and migrate the data? If it'd trash my OS, is my only alternative to run the migration through the Intel App Accelerator inside of WinXP? I suppose my other alternatives is to use the Western Digital Data Lifeguard tool software to do a drive-to-drive copy, or some third party ghost method.

 

 

PS: Should I try to fix the SMART event before running a RAID-1 migration?
