Creating/Adding to a DVD data disk

HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GWA4164B   Combo drive

I can create a data disk with the software that came with the system (Sonic RecordNow V7). When I load my data DVD Sonic displays "Your version of DLA can read files on this disk but you will not be able to edit or add to them." I like to back-up my Quiken files to the DVD, but Quicken tells me it's "Unable to access the Disk. Make sure the drive is ready and the disk is not write protected."

I just replaced a Dell system that created and edited the disk I'm working with. Dell support has been surprisingly non-helpful.

How do I make use of DLA? Is it the incorrect software, medium or configuration? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
