Dimension 3000 128GB Limit?
I am trying to upgrade the hard drive in a Dimension 3000 (Purchased 12/2004). The BIOS (A01) doesn't seem to recognize drives over 120GB. I have a 60, 120, 320 and 400. The 60 and 120 work but the 320 and 400 won't.
If I am correct in guessing that the A01 BIOS won't support >128GB drives, will the A03 BIOS correct this?

No, it was not the BIOS upgrade, the 3000 supports any currently available IDE/EIDE hard drive.

Thanks. It must have been the CS jumper setting then. It's wierd they make you do that.

Pleased to have helped.
Dell has always used the 'Cable Select' setting for the IDE/EIDE drives.

I upgraded the BIOS (had to do a quick XP install to try it since system doesn't have a floppy drive and the original drive seems to have crashed!).
At first it did not appear to be working but then I remembered reading something about having to put the drive on Cable Select instead of Master. The 320GB drive is now working. I thought I had tried the CS option before under BIOS A01 so now I don't know if it was the BIOS upgrade, the CS jumpers or both that made this work.
I would be interested in knowing if it was the BIOS upgrade because I didn't see anything in the fixes and enhancements that were listed with it. I would think that "Now supports drives > 128GB" would be a biggie....
