I have installed a sony dru170c dvd-rw in my dell dimension 4300, running windows xp sp2. Cd's play and record fine, but put a dvd movie in and the picture is great, but there is no sound. Try changing audio setting, and about 15 different movies, reinstalled installation cd twice and still getting the same thing
