I want to update the firmware on my NEC 3500 DVD drive, but NEC's download site says to disconnect any slave and define the 3500 as master.  My 3500 (in the top slot) and 3100 (in the second slot) are set to Cable Select.  This is in an XPS Gen 3.  As I recall,  only the IDE cable end would reach the top slot, making the 3500 master.  Will I have problems with the firmware update if I leave the CS connection as is?
